Jira - Add Comment
↩ Part of the Jira integration.
Description
Section titled “Description”Posts a comment on an issue (POST /issue/{key}/comment). Use it to leave an audit trail on the ticket: what the automation did, the result of an external check, a link to a generated document.
You write plain text; the node converts it to Atlassian Document Format (ADF), which the API v3 requires for rich-text bodies. Line breaks become separate paragraphs.
Configuration
Section titled “Configuration”| Field | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
credentials_id | credentials | Yes | Jira credential |
issue_key | text | Yes | Issue key (e.g. OPS-123) |
comment | textarea | Yes | Comment text (converted to ADF) |
Both issue_key and comment accept dynamic variables.
Credentials
Section titled “Credentials”This module requires a Jira (Atlassian) credential:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
base_url | Site URL, e.g. https://your-domain.atlassian.net |
email | Atlassian account email |
api_token | API token from id.atlassian.com |
Output
Section titled “Output”data is the comment object returned by Jira:
{ "id": "10101", "self": "https://your-domain.atlassian.net/rest/api/3/issue/10042/comment/10101", "author": { "accountId": "5b10a2…", "displayName": "Automation Bot" }, "body": { "type": "doc", "version": 1, "content": [{ "type": "paragraph", "content": [{ "type": "text", "text": "Order 4821 was refunded." }] }] }, "created": "2026-08-28T10:12:44.113+0200", "updated": "2026-08-28T10:12:44.113+0200"}Along with it, _meta:
{ "moduleVersion": "1.0.0", "success": true, "key": "OPS-123", "commentId": "10101", "totalMs": 265 }Usage Example
Section titled “Usage Example”Fixed message
Section titled “Fixed message”{ "credentials_id": "jira_ops", "issue_key": "OPS-123", "comment": "Automatically verified: the endpoint responds 200."}Multi-line result
Section titled “Multi-line result”{ "credentials_id": "jira_ops", "issue_key": "{{data.key}}", "comment": "Check finished.\nOrders processed: {{data.total}}\nErrors: {{data.errors}}"}Each line becomes its own paragraph in Jira.
- The comment is posted by the account that owns the API token, so it shows up under that user’s name. Use a dedicated bot account if you want automated comments to be distinguishable.
- Formatting such as bold, lists or mentions is not supported by this node — text is sent as plain paragraphs. For a richer ADF body use the HTTP node.
- Comment visibility restrictions (internal / role-limited comments) are not configurable here; comments are created with default visibility.
- A
404means the issue does not exist or the account cannot see it; a403means the account cannot comment on that project. Neither is retried.
