RSS Read

The RSS Read node downloads an RSS 2.0 or Atom feed from a URL and returns its items as an array with a normalized structure. It is useful for monitoring a blog’s updates, aggregating news, triggering actions on new posts, or feeding other nodes with external content.

It is equivalent to n8n’s RSS Read node.

The node automatically detects the feed type (<rss><channel> for RSS 2.0 or <feed> for Atom) and unifies both formats into the same item shape, so the rest of the workflow does not need to know which type the original feed was.

ParameterTypeRequiredDescription
urltextYesRSS/Atom feed URL. Supports dynamic variables
limitnumberNoMax items to return. 0 (default) = all
timeoutnumberNoMaximum request wait time in milliseconds. Defaults to 15000

The node returns a normalized array of items directly:

[
{
"title": "August updates",
"link": "https://example.com/august-updates",
"pubDate": "Mon, 04 Aug 2026 09:00:00 GMT",
"content": "<p>Article content…</p>",
"guid": "https://example.com/august-updates",
"author": "Editorial",
"categories": ["news", "product"]
}
]

Each item includes the fields title, link, pubDate, content, guid, author, and categories (array). In Atom feeds, pubDate comes from updated/published, content from content/summary, and link from the alternate link.

{
"label": "Latest news",
"url": "https://example.com/feed.xml",
"limit": "5"
}

Returns the first 5 items of the feed.

Read a feed whose URL comes from a previous node

Section titled “Read a feed whose URL comes from a previous node”
{
"label": "Dynamic feed",
"url": "{{data.feed_url}}",
"limit": "0",
"timeout": "20000"
}

Resolves the URL from data and returns all items, with a 20-second timeout.

  • If the URL is missing, or the content is not a valid RSS or Atom feed, the node returns a descriptive error
  • The resulting array can be iterated with an Iterator node or narrowed with Limit / Remove Duplicates
  • The url field supports dynamic and cross-node variables: {{data.field}}, {{@NodeName.field}}
  • The node identifies itself with the User-Agent Floogos-RSS/1.0
  • Does not require credentials
