Monday.com - Create Item

↩ Part of the Monday.com integration.

This module creates an item in a board by sending the create_item GraphQL mutation to https://api.monday.com/v2:

mutation($board_id: ID!, $group_id: String, $item_name: String!, $column_values: JSON) {
create_item(board_id: $board_id, group_id: $group_id, item_name: $item_name, column_values: $column_values) {
id
name
}
}

You only fill the fields; the node builds the mutation and the variables. column_values is stringified to JSON before being sent, as the Monday API requires.

FieldTypeRequiredDescription
credentials_idcredentialsYesMonday credential
board_idtextYesNumeric board id
group_idtextNoGroup id inside the board
item_nametextYesItem name
column_valuesjsonNoColumn values as JSON

This module requires a Monday credential.

FieldDescription

timeoutOptional. Request timeout in milliseconds (default 20000)

}

The mutation only asks Monday for id and name, so those are the two fields you get back. Chain a Get Item node if you need the full row afterwards.

  • The keys inside column_values are column ids, not the titles shown in the board. You can read them from a Get Item call, or from the board’s column menu in Monday.
  • If you omit group_id, the item lands in the board’s default (topmost) group.
  • Monday returns HTTP 200 even when the mutation fails. The node inspects the errors array and stops the branch with the real message, for example ColumnValueException when a value does not match the column type.
  • A column_values value with the wrong shape for its column type is a validation error and is not retried. Fix the JSON and run again.
  • Both board_id and item_name are required. If either is missing the node fails before calling Monday.
