ClickUp - Add Comment

↩ Part of the ClickUp integration.

Adds a comment to a ClickUp task (POST /task/{task_id}/comment). It is the simplest way to leave an audit trail on the task: what the workflow did, what it found, or why it stopped — with the option of notifying everyone assigned.

The comment text accepts dynamic variables, so you can compose it from the output of earlier nodes.

FieldTypeRequiredDescription
credentials_idcredentialsYesClickUp credential
task_idtextYesTask id
comment_texttextareaYesComment text
notify_alltextNotrue to notify all assignees

task_id and comment_text are resolved through dynamic variables ({{data.field}}). notify_all is sent as true only when its value is exactly true; otherwise it is sent as false.

This node requires a ClickUp credential (service type clickup):

FieldDescription
tokenPersonal API token from ClickUp → Settings → Apps → API Token

The comment is attributed to the ClickUp user who owns the token.

ClickUp returns a small receipt for the comment, not the task:

{
"data": {
"id": "458",
"hist_id": "26508",
"date": 1786790123456
},
"_meta": {
"moduleVersion": "1.0.0",
"success": true,
"id": "86a1b2c3d",
"commentId": "458",
"totalMs": 233
}
}

_meta.id is the task, _meta.commentId is the comment — useful if you want to reference it later through the HTTP node.

{
"credentials_id": "clickup_ops",
"task_id": "{{data.task_id}}",
"comment_text": "Shipped with tracking {{data.tracking}}"
}
{
"credentials_id": "clickup_ops",
"task_id": "{{data.task_id}}",
"comment_text": "Could not invoice: {{data.error.message}}",
"notify_all": "true"
}
  • If task_id or comment_text is empty, the node stops with a validation error and nothing is posted.
  • ClickUp renders Markdown in comments, so multi-line summaries and links display correctly.
  • notify_all sends a ClickUp notification to every assignee; leave it off for routine logging to avoid noise.
  • Comments cannot be edited or deleted by these nodes — post a new comment instead.
